The Blog

An online diary of my everyday life featuring tips and tricks I've learned along the way.

It’s the start of another new month and I’m still going strong on with my meal planning / dinner cooking.  I took time over the holiday weekend to complete my July dinner menu, stock up on grocery store items and I’m ready to provide my family with more yummy home-cooked meals.

Here is a peek at my dinner menu for the month.  Hopefully it will help give you some dinner ideas, as well.

It’s time for the second room on our house tour.  A few weeks ago I shared our master bedroom.  Today is our master bathroom.  Or should I say our ONLY bathroom currently in the house.

When we purchased this house 17+ years ago, I agreed to do so as long as we added a second bathroom in the basement.  Let’s just say 17 years with two children and two adults later and I’m still waiting on that second bathroom.  We have the walls framed but that’s as far as it’s gotten.  The second bathroom is one of the final things we need to complete before we list for sale.

Yes, it’s been an inconvenience to have only one bathroom but honestly, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.  We’ve managed just fine.

The bathroom is an L-shape with access from the hallway and the master bedroom.  This is the hallway entrance.

I do love that the bathroom contains the laundry closet.  It makes it much more likely I’ll keep up with the laundry with it right off the master bedroom.

Entrance from the master bedroom.

There wasn’t enough room on the wall to hang a towel for each family member so we added a hook on the back of the door for the fourth towel.  It works perfectly.

A few of my favorite things in the bathroom:

It’s country style really doesn’t fit the decor anymore, but I still love my ancient hairdryer/curling iron holder.  I can’t stand things sitting out on the counter so I like being able to put them up even when they are still hot.

I store my make-up brushes in a coordinating bathroom cup for easy access.

I keep a few of our everyday essentials on the counter but contained in a basket.  Everything else has it’s place in the drawers and cabinets below.  Even with four people sharing one bathroom, we keep the clutter to a minimum.

It’s not much but it’s worked just fine for our family of FOUR. (Though I’m sure it would be even better with that second bathroom I was promised!)

FLAG DAY {2016}

On this day I hang the American flag with pride and reflect on the privileges and opportunities afforded to me.  Though recent events may make us question the world in which we live, I proudly fly the stars and stripes and pray that good can overcome bad and someday soon we can all learn to live as one.

Six month old babies are always one of my favorites to photograph.  They are always full of personality.  Miss Harper was no exception.  She started off pretty sober and then something clicked and her little smile lit up the camera.  We went from one outfit to the next and she was happy as could be.  SO much fun!  It was a pleasure to capture her 6 month photos.

Her great-grandma made her bassinet.  Isn’t it precious?

“Hand in hand we will grow into the promise of tomorrow.”

It’s the worst feeling.  Everyday.  Four o’clock rolls around and I realize I didn’t thaw any meat and I have no idea what to cook for dinner.  Why?  I hate trying to come up with ideas every single day on the fly.  I finally had enough and took an afternoon over the holiday weekend and to plan out a month’s worth of meals like I used to do.  For the next 30 days, I can enjoy not stressing over nightly meals (providing I can force myself to go to the store – my next least favorite thing to do).  I thought I would share my monthly meal plan and recipe links with you in the event you experience that same pit in your stomach around 4:00pm each day.  Here’s to feeling prepared, if only for the next month.

When we moved into our home in 1999 with our two and a half year old son and a daughter on the way in just 2 months, I never would have dreamed that we would still be here seventeen years later.  To this day, I still love our little house.  It’s been perfect for our family.  We have slowly (emphasis on the word S-L-O-W-L-Y) remodeled and updated room by room.

As we are contemplating putting our house on the market, we are putting the final touches on the updates we still have to do.  I just finished painting every square inch of new trim and doors throughout the entire house and I don’t care if I never touch a paintbrush again.  But it feels fresh and new and I LOVE it!

I’ve had the idea of doing a home tour here on the blog for awhile but I always wanted things to be completely finished first.  Well, in my world, I’ve had to realize that 100% perfect is never going to happen so there’s no better time than the present.  Since the master bedroom was the first room I’ve completely painted and cleaned in our house selling prep, it’s the first room I’m going to share here on the blog along with a few of my personal decorating tips.  It’s not huge, but it’s the perfect place to lay our heads each night.

The view as you walk in from the hallway.

View from the closet.

My favorite addition – access to our back deck.  This used to be a window that we replaced with a glass door to add natural light.  We reinforced the deck to hold a hot tub outside the bedroom door but never got around to installing said hot tub.  🙁

And a few of my favorite decorative touches:

There wasn’t enough room for a side table on each side of the bed so I opted for these cute little shelves to hold a few of my favorite things.

I’ve had this engraved box on my dresser since the day we were married.  My roommates in college gave it to us and forever on my dresser will it stay.

I think this was actually intended for outside use, but I use it to hold my necklaces.

I bring fresh flowers from the flower beds into my house any chance I get.  This $2 tray from Target holds hubby’s watches.  XOXO from Hobby Lobby.

A touch of masculine.  I love this deer head from Urban Outfitters.

Let’s face it, it’s a special occasion when people are coming over (or photos are being taken) that all of the pillows go on the bed.

A basket from TJ Maxx hides bulky sweaters that take up too much room in drawers.

A photo I took on our most recent vacation.  Love waking up each morning to great family memories.

Because tv equipment is ugly, I dress it up.

And finally, my favorite spot in the master bedroom (besides the comfy bed) is the full length mirror from Kirkland’s and little bench & pillow from Pier One.

That concludes the tour of our master bedroom in it’s 100% finished and cleaned state.  We’ll see how long it stays that way.  As I clean out other rooms, I will continue the home tour here on the blog.  Stay tuned.

It’s ready!  The new Senior Magazine for 2017 seniors is finished and packed with all you need to know about the perks of being a Christy B senior.  The magazine is a labor of love spelling out anything you could want to know about our senior portrait sessions and products.  Want to see all 38 pages of info? Shoot me a message and I’ll send it your way.

There are a ton of new things I’ll be implementing this year to make the senior experience hit a new level for my seniors.  I truly want it to be one of their best memories of their senior year.  I’m so excited to spoil my 2017 seniors!!

One of the new things for the upcoming school year is to be a personal paparazzi for my seniors.  As always, I will attend and photograph various sporting and extracurricular events at my senior’s schools.  Only this year, I will solely be focusing on capturing my Christy B seniors on and off the field, not their entire teams.  Editing hundreds of action shots of team sports takes away valuable time from catering to my senior clients.  From now on, it’s all about them!  For those that want to take advantage of professional action shots but don’t want to hold their actual senior session until later in the school year, no big deal.  Just choose a senior session option that’s best for you, pay your session fee now and have your pictures taken at any time during your senior year while still taking advantage of the perks of being a Christy B senior your entire year.

Let’s do this, 2017 seniors!!  It’s your turn now!  EMAIL ME to receive a copy of the Senior Magazine and see what the Christy B senior portrait experience is all about.

I don’t really get baby fever over babies.  I’m too old for the sleepless nights and sick, runny noses.  Been there.  Done that.  I’m good now.  I get all of the baby snuggles I need when I’m lucky enough to photograph newborns in my studio.  BUT.  I do have baby puppy fever in the worst way!  I.  NEED.  ONE.

Unfortunately, this isn’t my puppy.  But I did get to play with him in the studio recently the day after he came home to his new family.  This is Barnum the English Bulldog and he is the cutest thing ever.  He’s also the featured image at the Pleasant Hill Animal Clinic that greets you when you visit.  I dare you not to smile just a little bit.

How you doin’?

For those that helped vote, the photo below is the winning image that is displayed at the Pleasant Hill Animal Clinic.
