An online diary of my everyday life featuring tips and tricks I've learned along the way.

World Series Bound

Between downpours, I recently photographed the Rampage baseball team. They head off to the Little League World Series Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska this weekend.

For their pictures, the moms made sure the team had brand new fresh, clean black hats to wear. Silly moms! These boys worked hard to get those hats shaped just right. Those sweat rings are the mark of true baseball players. There was no way they were going to change hats this far into the season. I think those worn hats look great, guys. I know having pictures taken isn’t the most fun part of the baseball season, but you’ll sure make your moms proud when they look at them.

Best of luck this weekend Rampage!  I can’t wait to hear how you did.

60 Years Married

60 years. Married. 60 years! They look too young to have been married 60 years ago.

These are my grandparents. On father’s day we celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

If ever there was a husband and wife for a young couple to look up to, it is these two. I’m sure they have had their share of disagreements over the years, but I can’t recall a time when I’ve seen evidence of discord. I have memories of hand holding, admiration, knowing smiles and lots of laughs. Their 60th wedding anniversary was no different.

The entire family was able to make it for the celebration. I learned that photographing complete strangers is much easier than photographing family members. Family is all to comfortable with you and doesn’t mind telling you to, “Just take the picture!”, not caring if there is a pink flamingo garden ornament sticking out behind their heads. “Just edit it out.” That’s easy for them to say!

Here are my grandparents with their three kids; the start of our wonderful family.

Add in their spouses. Look at the expressions on their faces. I think they must have been telling me to hurry up again. That’s what you get for harassing the photographer – less than perfect images posted on the interent for the whole world to see.

The grandchildren. The best behaved grandchildren ever, I’m sure.

The grandchildren and their spouses. Photo courtesy of my son.

And finally, the great-grandchildren. Notice the pink flamingo sneaking into the picture again. At this point, none of us cared, not even me. At least the great-grandkids didn’t talk back. 🙂

And that’s our big, happy family. All inspired to grow up to be our very best by a young couple that fell in love over 60 years ago.

Celebrating 50 Years Together

What an honor it is to capture images of a couple celebrating 50 years of marriage.  These days it’s not such a common occurrence.  To think that fifty years ago they started out, just the two of them.  Over the years their family grew and grew.  And look at them now, older wiser and surrounded by the love of the family they created.  Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Kircher on fifty years of marriage and a beautiful family!

The day of their anniversary celebration the sun was bright and the weather was warm.  There wasn’t a hint of shade to be found.  The entire family braved the midafternoon sun and heat for a few group photos.  I especially love this shot – the very last shot of the day.  They told everyone to just find a spot.  I actually like how there are a few closed eyes and not everyone is looking straight at the camera.  It’s perfectly imperfect.  Just  like most any family is.

We started the photos inside the church.  This is Mr. & Mrs. Kircher with all of their kids.  How lucky they are to have all of their children together at once to celebrate the special occasion!

Here are a few more images of some of the main family groupings.  Such a beautiful extended family you have Mr. & Mrs. Kircher!

2010 PHHS Project Graduation B-cRaZy PhotoBooth

This week I was one of the lucky ones that got to attend Pleasant Hill High School’s Project Graduation for the *just graduated* 2010 seniors. Our B-cRaZy PhotoBooth was one of the options among bowling, go-carts, caricature artists and more that evening. I had an absolute blast getting to photograph the seniors having the time of their lives with their friends. Looking back through these fun photo booth images, it makes me smile to think of the memories these kids will have as they embark on the next phase of their young lives. Congratulations to all of the PHHS 2010 seniors and best of luck to you in all that the future holds for you!

Amazing Light on a Perfect Spring Night

I know the blog has been quiet lately.  I’ve been working on a few new projects that will hopefully debut soon.  I have a bad habit of digging right in to a project and neglecting other things like making dinner, folding laundry or updating the blog. Last night the evening light was amazing. I couldn’t resist putting the projects on hold and shooting some images just for fun. I bribed my daughter with whatever would work for her to let me take some pictures while my husband and son were mowing. I L-O-V-E this time of year! The only bad part was the darn bees that kept dive bombing us around the barn. I would just get her in the right spot and a bee would come flying down at her. She would run off screaming and we would have to start all over again when they flew off. Good times on a perfect spring evening with the family!
